About House of Lobkowicz

House of Lobkowicz shares 700 years of Bohemian inspiration. Discover five unique cultural heritage sites offering full-service event design and hospitality management, diverse cultural tourism experiences, and the Lobkowicz Collections—one of Europe’s oldest and finest private art collections.

The 700-year-old Lobkowicz family is one of the oldest Bohemian noble families whose successive generations have played an influential role in European politics and society, especially as patrons of the arts.

The family’s art collections and properties were confiscated twice, first in 1939 by the Nazis and again after 1948 by the Communists. The Lobkowiczes were persecuted and forced to flee their homeland. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, the family returned to then Czechoslovakia and began the restitution process to reclaim, reassemble, and restore their lost cultural heritage, permanently opening these previously hidden treasures to the public, for the first time in history.

House of Lobkowicz oversees five cultural heritage sites which include the Lobkowicz Palace in Prague Castle, Nelahozeves Castle and the adjacent Antonín Dvořák Birth House, Roudnice Castle, and Střekov Castle.

These historic locations offer exhibitions, gastronomy, gift shops, concerts, festivals, education and research programs, and event rental opportunities for weddings, corporate functions, social celebrations, and more.

Message From the Lobkowicz Family

The call of our roots was urgent and compelling after the seismic world events of the Velvet Revolution of 1989. It offered an unprecedented moment in history—to participate directly in the historic changes which took place in what has been our ancestral home for seven centuries.

Since our permanent return to the Czech Republic in 1991, we have completed the restitution of our confiscated cultural heritage. This 25-year process was made possible by the passage of three restitution laws under the enlightened leadership of President Václav Havel.

Our family returned as refugees, without the financial underpinnings available to our ancestors, but guided by family, faith, friends, and education. We believe these values have allowed us to survive against all the odds of history—wars, bankruptcies, Nazi and Communist confiscations, and 50 years of exile.

Today, we have an historic opportunity and responsibility: to preserve, study, and share a 700-year-old heritage with the world. We do not consider ourselves owners, but rather custodians of culture. We are not just preserving, but actively transforming the collections and properties into an expanded, dynamic, and contextual cultural heritage. Through creative stewardship, spirited public-private partnerships, and visionary benefactors, we strive to create an inspiring connection and lasting contribution to world culture and civil society.

We believe culture is something universal that serves as a bridge between the past, present, and future. It doesn’t just tell us about a time in history. It also tells us something about who we are today—and where we are going tomorrow.

We hope you will join us on this House of Lobkowicz journey of sharing the past and creating the future.
