The Lobkowicz Collections and Library & Archives offer unparalleled resources for research

We recognize the important contribution that scholars and researchers make to fields such as history, art history, and science. In addition to in-house research, we welcome and collaborate with an international community of scholars, researchers, and institutions to advance knowledge, develop new tools, methods, and solutions, encourage discourse, and contribute to the broader context of cultural heritage. The Lobkowicz Library & Archives is open, by prior appointment, to visiting scholars, researchers, and university students in thesis programs for general or specialized research. Special visits and lectures are also arranged periodically.

Scholarly Partnerships

Cranach Digital Archive

The aim of this project is continuous digitization of paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472–1553) and publishing documents related to his work, workshop, and followers. Two important paintings from the Lobkowicz Collections were made available to the public through this archive: Christ and the Adulteress and The Virgin and Child with Saint Barbara and Saint Catherine of Alexandria.

HOME

This project is focused on developing an electronic tool for automated reading of medieval manuscript texts. It is led by the Paris Institut de Recherche et D’Histoire des Textes in cooperation with other international institutions, including the National Archives in Prague. The Lobkowicz Library contributed reproductions of a 15th-century manuscript copybook, which includes period transcriptions of selected charters from the cartulary of the Archives of the Bohemian Crown, preserved in the National Archives in Prague. The copybook improves the development of the automated reading tool and the legibility of calligraphic ancient documents. The original charters from the Archives of the Bohemian Crown are accessible on Monasterium, a free virtual database of medieval and early modern manuscripts.

The database is jointly operated by Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and Heidelberg University Library. Examples of Iwein manuscripts from the Lobkowicz Library are available here.
