While the Lobkowicz family’s winery was founded in 1603, the history of wine production in Roudnice dates back to 1333, when the castle served as the seat of the Archbishops of Prague. Archbishop Jan Očko of Dražice had a great influence on the expansion of winemaking in Roudnice during that time. Roudnice came into the Lobkowicz family in 1603 through the marriage of Polyxena Rožmberk, née Pernstein, who owned the castle, and Zdenko Adalbert Popel, 1st Prince Lobkowicz. Since then, wine production has continued, even during its confiscation from the family by the Communist regime. In 1993, the castle and the winery were returned to the Lobkowicz family.
Building upon this long tradition of winemaking, the winery is still housed in Roudnice Castle’s historic Romanesque cellars and continues to produce award-winning wines—a unique blend of heritage and craftsmanship built over centuries.
