Explore

Discover one of the biggest castles in the Czech Republic with over 200 rooms, 4 wings, 12 corridors, and 365 windows. Built upon a 12th-century Romanesque fortress, this majestic Baroque castle is perched above the Elbe River in the heart of the historic town of Roudnice nad Labem, approximately 50 km from Prague. Historically serving as the princely and ducal seat of the Lobkowicz family, the castle today is a venue for tours, concerts, festivals, filmmaking, and our award-winning Zámek Lobkowicz Roudnice winery.

Tour

Enjoy a guided tour of Roudnice Castle, journeying through its vast spaces including the library, historic cellars, Baroque chapel with magnificent frescoes, and theater. Tours are enhanced with period photographs, illustrations, portraits, and architectural plans from the Lobkowicz Library & Archives—bringing to life the storied history of this centuries-old residence.

History

The Lobkowicz family’s history in this Baroque castle began with the wedding of Princess Polyxena Lobkowicz, née Pernstein (1566–1642) and Zdenko Adalbert Popel, 1st Prince Lobkowicz (1568–1628), in 1603. The castle originally housed the Lobkowicz Library & Archives. Throughout the 20th-century periods of confiscation under the Nazi and Communist regimes, the building was used as a Nazi training school and a military music school, respectively.

Winery

Discover the oldest family winery in the Czech Republic, founded in 1603. With a long history of cultivating wines in the country’s northernmost region, the Zámek Lobkowicz Roudnice winery offers a unique blend of heritage and craftsmanship. Tours and wine tastings are offered in the winery’s historic cellars or directly in the vineyards.
