A Year in the Village: Spinning Yarn
As part of the year-long series A Year in the Village, we would like to invite you to a day filled with traditional rural winter crafts.
In the winter the outdoor work came to a halt, ice adorned the windows of farmhouses, snow blanketed the outside and village life moved indoors to the warmth of the living room. This cozy space then filled up with the whir of spinning wheels as well as the aroma of sausages and people gathered to tell each other stories.
Come to the Antonín Dvořák Birth House in Nelahozeves on February 8 to experience the beauty of winter traditions, where spinning yarn and pork feasts were an integral part of rural life. Enjoy demonstrations of work on a spinning wheel and even try your hand at using historical weaving tools. Then go enjoy a workshop where you can create a beautiful keepsake and soak in the atmosphere of an old Czech winter.
Never tried spinning yarn? Even more reason to join us and step back in time to a world where work, conversation, and daily life were very different from today.
